The Tasmanian Forest Products Association say it is concerned about the levels of Tasmanian timber in plans for the Macquarie Point stadium.

Construction firm BESIX Watpac has been chosen as the preferred builder to construct the stadium, and a fixed-price contract is expected to be signed before Christmas.

Tasmanian Forest Products Association chief executive Drew Freeman tells Ryk Goddard on Hobart Breakfast he wants changes to be made to the design to showcase more local timber.

“We’re really concerned about the level of Tasmanian grown and harvested and milled timber that will be programmed in the build and fit out of the stadium,” he says.

“At the moment, putting it fairly bluntly, there’s likely to be more Tasmanian timber in the Shane Warne Stand at the MCG than there will be in the Macquarie Point Stadium.”

With the CEO from the Tasmanian Timber Products Association on the radio complaining that the stadium is lacking any timber in its construction, there goes the Premier’s promise of a squillion local jobs. More lies. This is what “value management” looks like. #nonewstadium #politas
