Mr Albanese arrived at Macquarie Point on April 28 to promise $240 million for an “urban renewal project” — with the deal not explicitly naming a stadium, and requiring port upgrades and housing as well.
It was seen as the final funding needed to ensure the stadium would go ahead, and therefore a Tasmanian AFL team.
On May 9, state Labor questioned whether Mr Ferguson had requested these funds be exempt from GST calculations.
That same day, Mr Ferguson wrote to Dr Chalmers making this formal request, referencing that they had discussed it earlier.
