Labor elders have lashed the state of the party in Tasmania, telling the ABC the opposition’s policies are indistinguishable from the Liberals and there is no pathway to government without working with the Greens and other crossbenchers.

Mr Aird said Labor’s worst policy decision had been to back the new AFL stadium at Macquarie Point, the cost of which has already jumped to $1.1 billion before construction is even underway.

“How can you argue fiscal responsibility … if in fact, you’re throwing $2 billion of fuel onto the flame? That could have been the point of differentiation between us and the Libs. It isn’t, but it should be.”
