Married with three young children, Mr Willie was a primary school teacher before being elected to the Tasmanian Legislative Council in 2016, later making a successful move to the House of Assembly in 2024.
Before the July state election, Mr Willie served as Labor’s Shadow Treasurer, Shadow Minister for Cost of Living and Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.
What’s next?
Mr Willie is the new leader of Tasmanian Labor, replacing Dean Winter, and will lead the Opposition against Jeremy Rockliff’s Liberals, the party that has been in power since 2014.
