Independent economist Nicholas Gruen has been in Hobart addressing the Parliamentary Accounts Committee on his Macquarie Point stadium report.
At Our Place, we note with regret that our public broadcaster introduced this program excerpt with the following text, referring to Dr Gruen as Mr Gruen and including a statement that would be struck out of any year one journalism student’s essay (Some people have been critical of his report.):
Mr Gruen’s costing report concluded that the “costs were understated,” the “benefits overstated” and that the project bears “the hallmarks of mismanagement”.
Some people have been critical of his report. Mr Gruen told Kylie Baxter on ABC Hobart Drive, “I am not trying to attack the stadium; I am trying to come up with the most reasonable treatment of the various costs.”

Interview with Nicholas Gruen on ABC 936 drive was so important for everyone in Tasmania to listen to. We are being lied to by the Government and MacPoint Corporation & KPMG @jacquilambie.bsky.social @andrewwilkiemp.bsky.social @kristiejohnstonmp.bsky.social @slowguns.bsky.social
