Motion:
This meeting calls on the Tasmanian Government to:
(a) immediately abandon its Macquarie Point Stadium proposal before any more public monies are wasted on this unachievable project; and
(b) renegotiate the Team Agreement with the AFL to deliver AFL and AFLW teams while reclaiming the State’s sovereignty over decisions regarding where and when AFL/AFLW sporting facilities are to be built or upgraded.

We recognise that the renaming of this place after the Governor of New South Wales and Van Diemen’s Land, who was known for ordering violent reprisals against Aboriginal people, constitutes a profound disrespect for the continuing relationship of Tasmanian Aboriginal people with their ancestral country.
We support the vision of Tasmanian Aboriginal people to create a Truth and Reconciliation Park at the heart of the Macquarie Point precinct as a way of healing the trauma of dispossession and genocide, and of celebrating the resilience and generosity of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture.
