A group of Tasmanians from the No New Stadium group held a protest outside AFL Headquarters in Melbourne today.
They wanted to meet AFL CEO, Andrew Dillon, to personally deliver a letter to him that says STOP THE MADNESS! This follows him failing to even acknowledge emails from thousands of Tasmanians over recent months calling on the AFL to renegotiate its stadium deal.
Mr Dillon refused to meet them and they were prevented from entering the building by AFL security. Instead they handed out copies of their letter to AFL employees and passers-by.
Roland Browne, spokesperson for No New Stadium, said:
‘When will Mr Dillon and the AFL wise up and listen to Tasmanians? The political turmoil now engulfing Tasmania is because Tasmanians have said loud and clear they can’t afford an expensive stadium. When will Mr Dillon have the common sense to stop demanding a white elephant that will damage the well-being of the Tasmanian people? Come on, Mr Dillon, stop bullying Tasmania. Ditch the demand for a new stadium. It’s time to rethink this and come up something else that works for Tasmanians as well as the AFL.’
