CALL NOW: The Tasmanian Labor Party is in disarray
We know that the latest decision to dismiss the findings of the Planning Commission’s expert panel is not a popular one with all in the caucus.
We know that they have changed their minds on this issue before and there has never been a better time to do that again.
We know that they are still hanging their hats as an Opposition on having uncovered the Spirits debacle. And they promise to similarly “hold the government to account” on the proposed stadium. There is no similarity. That the stadium would be a financial disaster for Tasmania is as plain as the nose on your face. Nothing to uncover here!
We know that they are planning to sign a blank cheque without a single protective measure put in place except for some committee that will mull over the mess AFTER it’s happened. This kind of scrutiny after the fact, having signed the blank cheque, is nothing more than “we are watching while tut-tutting”. Tasmanians need more than an “ambulance at the bottom of the cliff” from their Opposition, especially as they know that ambulance will be ramped.
We know that, if this goes ahead this year, the final contracts will be signed some time in 2026 – and only then will the final costings (bound to be near $2B) be known.
It’s time to let Labor know that we will hold them to account!
They have ignored our letters. Let’s hit the phones.

Ring both (or all 3 if applicable). You will be speaking with a staffer. Be polite.
Most of you will be ready to go by now, but if you need a bit more inspiration …
Tell them why you think the proposed stadium is a bad idea.
AND
Ask them to explain their decision to ignore the TPC.
OR
Ask them why they have abandoned the responsibility of being an Opposition.
OR
Ask them what is the point of promising to hold the government to account after giving them a blank cheque.
AND
Ask for assurance that your question will be recorded and passed on to your member for reply.
THEN
Ring back a few days later to ask again if you have not had an answer.
AND
Rinse and repeat with a second question next week and the one after.
They don’t get to do the blank cheque thing without thinking twice about what they are doing, without knowing that, when the true costs come home to roost, we will blame them!
