Background:
The government’s “enabling” legislation is designed to bypass and obliterate any vestige of a proper planning process and set up the parliament as a faux planning authority. It gives extraordinary powers to Minister Abetz and is designed to preclude scrutiny.
With a shameful history of disparaging what the people think and what the experts think, this government has now set up a consultation process with no other intent than to be able to claim they asked for our views. It’s nonsense. The Tasmanian Planning Commission has the community’s views – all 862 of them.
The legislation’s supporting documentation purports to address all of the concerns raised by the Tasmanian Planning Commission in its recent Draft Integrated Assessment Report. At almost every juncture, it does nothing more than say “she’ll be right, mate”. It is an insult to the people of Tasmania and to the Commission.
It’s now even more of a farce. In the middle of a three-week consultation period, the government has tabled the bill without that process winding up.

To engage with this process is to endorse its true intent.

But his process is set up to capture only what he wants to hear. If you don’t give him that, your submission most likely won’t be counted.
