Our Place – Hobart has supported calls for accountability from MPDC after it was revealed MPDC has misled Tasmanians over Webuild’s failure to disclose it is facing criminal charges.
Spokesperson Roland Browne said:
The tender assessment process is developing a strong stench. We have a tenderer failing to disclose serious criminal charges, a Probity Advisor who has been kept in the dark, and MPDC which is trying to cover up its own failings and the considerable failings of Webuild.
MPDC must also explain how it tendered to the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament (PAC) on 26 May 2026 a letter from Webuild dated 11 May 2026 (linked below) where it is stated by Webuild:
“Webuild has acted transparently at all times and has proactively notified relevant regulatory authorities of any allegations.”
That statement is demonstrably incorrect, and it now appears MPDC must have known it was incorrect at the very time MPDC sent this letter to the PAC.
This is all very serious.
This project already suffers from grave integrity failures, with cost issues being hidden and lies being told about the project from day one.
Webuild must be disqualified.
This project has no social licence, is opposed by 60% of the community, and is a financial and planning disaster.
The writing is on the wall. The government and ALP need to move to plan B, which is housing on Mac Point and a different funding model for the AFL/W teams.
This is getting really serious. Both Webuild and MPDC have misled the Tasmanian community. There is a stench developing around this tender process for this unwanted and unaffordable stadium. It’s time for Tasmania to cut ties with Webuild. And abandon the stadium. #nonewstadium. #politas
