Back in April 2025, Roy and HG got stuck into the Stadium proposal on their show, Bludging on the Blindside. You can hear that segment here.
They no doubt expected it would be all over bar the shouting by August 2025 but they found they had to revisit the story as the Tasmanian Government was still ploughing on. It’s another hilarious listen.
Start/End Times: 51.12 – 1.02.20
Highlights:
- Given that the stadium is going to cost a lot of money, let’s just have a look at a few things that may be of concern to people.
- I mean the thing about that ANZAC memorial is that it’s been there for so long. It means a lot to all of those who’ve attended dawn services over the years at that particular part of Hobart. That’s sacred. It’s sacred. … That can’t be touched, can’t be moved. It’s got to be left in perpetuity as it is. Now I don’t know how you get around that impasse. Well unless you just get the bulldozers in one night and knock it over. And knock it over and then just say oh sorry we forgot.
- Let’s look at the impediments HG as they stack up. Firstly cost. Nobody knows how much this thing’s gonna cost to build in terms of the whole package.
- But it’s the resistance. No one in the public wants it. Apart from a handful of people who, you know, besotted by the idea of the Tasmanian Devils, who love the mascot.
- So it’s just going to sit there day after day.
- Yes, yes, I know it’s crazy. And as you say, they’re gonna have to come up with other uses for it. Now, perhaps as part of the ethical obligation, the Macquarie Point Stadium could be left open at all times to home the homeless.
